Colombian born Andrea Puerta graduated from the professional actor training programme at the Samuel Becket Centre, Trinity College, Dublin. She reverted to her former dance training, completing her professional formation at London Contemporary Dance School, The Place. She has performed as a contemporary dancer and as a physical and classical theatre performer both in the UK and abroad. Performances have included live, film, video and television shows for varied venues and audiences, including the the Young Vic in London, Newcastle Playhouse, Thames Festival, Teatro Colon, Bogota Colombia, ITV and the BBC. In 2004 Andrea founded her company Dynamics Physical Theatre. Her first work was selected to participate in the “Emerging Choreographers platform” at the Dublin Dance festival. Since then she has received funding from Awards4All, the Chisenhale Dance Space Reach Out! Award, the Millennium Award UNLTD and has gained a London Arts one year choreographic residency. She has currently finished a collaboration with a film maker and a singer in the production of a dance-music film, and is at present leading an ongoing investigation that explores the connection between movement and language, which has been supported by the Associate Arts Scheme at Oxford House.
Since November 2005, Andrea has been working for Creative Partnerships as a consultant and creative practitioner doing a variety of projects including carnivals, exhibitions, fashion shows, multimedia performances and workshops. Andrea combines her teaching and artistic practice and introduces elements of salsa, tango and gymnastics, which she has taught in both the community and the private sector to different ages and abilities.
