Andrew Jameson |
Musician & Artist |
Andrew studied 3D Design at Camberwell School of Art, specialising in Ceramics. He worked in a pottery in Cumbria before returning to London where he started working in theatre. Andrew worked for the Royal Opera House as a stage technician, draughtsman, and finally as production manager for six years, producing scenery for Opera and Ballet productions both in Covent Garden and abroad, including Shanghai, Budapest, and Pittsburg.
Whilst involved in these projects, Andrew steadily developed his musical abilities to the point where he left full-time work at the end of 2005 to pursue a career in music and education.
He is now a performing member of Brighton based percussion groups ‘Carnival
Collective’(www.carnivalcollective.org.uk/)‘Estrondo’(www.estrondo.co.uk) and Brighton School of Samba. Andrew has played gigs around the country including the Glastonbury and Larmer Tree festivals in 2007 with Carnival Collective; Brighton Carnival, Pride and Lewes Fireworks with Estrondo and Thames Festival 2007 with London-based ‘Beats Culture’.
He will soon be performing in the forthcoming Burning Of The Clocks in Brighton with Brighton School of Samba.
Andrew plays live percussion with various other Brighton groups and individual musicians, as well as composing, producing and performing original electronic music, both individually and also as one half of ‘DADDY’. His debut album “One Day You’ll Understand” was released on Litmus (www.litmus.org).
Other recent tracks on Litmus Records include “Test 2” compilation. He is currently working on a new album of work, combining live percussion and electronic sounds.
Andrew’s other education projects include sound design for “Einsteins Dreams” Woodlands School, Basildon (Creative Partnerships); composition and percussion/samba teaching for the “Off The Shelf” project with Fairhouse Juniors in Basildon (C.P.); 12 months weekly music/maths teaching for the “Music is Maths” project with West Thurrock Primary school (C.P.) and continued samba/percussion workshops with various year groups for Fairhouse Juniors (school funded). Andrew leads percussion and music workshops for various clients as well as management training with large companies. He works with adults with learning disabilities, and with youth groups in addition to leading one day workshops with local schools.
Other recent freelance projects include working as assistant designer/maker with DM Designs in Brighton, producing one-off metalwork staircases and balustrades, which Andrew has been involved with since January 2001. He is currently developing designs for a new venture - making specialist drums and percussion instruments to order.
Being involved with Creativity for Life has been a great experience for me. The project has been really well organised from the outset, and run very professionally throughout. I think it has been a bold, imaginative and hugely successful collaboration between education authorities, schools, artists and project management professionals….it has always felt like a whole team effort and I have felt privileged to be taking part. I think the finished web site will reflect this and will also clearly show how important creativity is within education.
