In Year 5 Nicola explored sculpture within our topic of “The Aztecs”.
Here is what Sophie had to say:
Some of my classmates and I really enjoyed making our Aztec head. We had a special visitor who came
in and she was called Nicola. She is a sculptor and an artist. We were all amazed at all of her work, I was so surprised that I had seen one of her sculptures in Woodford.
At first we had to make a 2D piece of card into a 3D shape. The first one we made was a dome; we had to cut 4 lines in the card which Nicola called “Eye, eye, bow-tie”. Then we folded all the pieces underneath to make a dome shape.
After that we started to make the head. It was really hard because we hard to bend against the grain. Everybody then made flowers and leaves for the jungle walls. We also had to make 2 Inca masks and some of us had to cut little pieces of different types of green and blue paper to stick on the masks.
We had lots of fun making the Aztec head and adding all of the eyes, noses and all of the other features of the head. My classmates and I really enjoyed working on it for 2 days. We had so much fun making all different shapes and all kinds of stuff.
