Visual Artist & Creative Practitioner |
I am a freelance painter and sculptor living and working in Essex. I am concerned with the man-made and natural environments. I make work which responds to locations through the making of site-specific sculptures in hard materials, which often feature colour, and paintings, which explore often overlooked places. These paintings are in turn built up with sculptural materials such as wooden shards and cardboard, to distort perspective creating a heightened sense of space. In these ways, my work whatever the medium, is a marrying of painting and sculpture.
I enjoy the exploration of materials, and have produced a large body of work in cardboard and wooden fruit box, aluminium, steel and concrete. Some of my artworks are permanently sited in public spaces, whereas other projects are photographed and produced as postcards, which allows the work to reach a large audience.
Alongside making work for galleries and for commission, I have visited many infant, junior, secondary and special schools where I have devised workshops to suit the needs of each school, and the pitch of each age group.
Working with CFL and Henry Moore School has been a great experience. It has made me focus on the mathematical aspect of my work which often happens unconciously. It was interesting to make the maths the focus of the work, but to approach it through creative activity.
