project overviewWhat is Creativity for Life?

Creativity for Life is part of a partnership programme across all the English regions, funded through Creative Partnerships by the then Department for Education and Skills (now the Department for Children, Schools and Families) Different projects were set up in each region. CfL is the Eastern Region initiative.

Essex and Hertfordshire local authorities have worked with Arts Council England East  to develop relatively long-term partnerships of four terms between artists and schools in two areas: Harlow and Essex and Stevenage in Herts. After consultation with potential partnership schools, Herts chose the joint themes of Literacy and Transitions , while Essex chose to focus largely on Numeracy.

Thirteen schools in each area worked with a partner artist for up to four terms.
Projects were developed by schools on an individual basis according to the needs of the school and its pupils and staff.

Lab Day training programme

The project included a series of 14 ‘Lab Days’ – experimental creative training days for teachers and artists working together. Each area had 6 Lab Days of its own, and two Joint Labs were organised, one in April 2007 and one March 2008, the latter co-inciding with the launch of this website.
