Ruth Finn |
Theatre Designer |
Ruth Finn trained and has worked as a Theatre Designer for the last 10 years. She has always gravitated towards companies that combine professional practice with community and educational projects as an integral part of their work rather than as a ‘bolt on’. Ruth has worked extensively with The David Glass Ensemble as a designer and facilitator for seven years, including five professional designs together with facilitation work with disadvantaged children in South East Asia and the UK.. She was designer and facilitator with children and young people for Half Moon Theatre, Polka Theatre for children, The Royal National Theatre
and The Lyric Hammersmith. During the last five years she has worked on five large education projects including with Year Six at Gallions Primary School, Beckon, East London, for a term. Here, with Dawn Burnham (dancer and choreographer), movement, drama, 2D and 3D Visual art were combined with science. Ruth and Dawn were then asked back a year later to work with the whole school – from Nursery to Year Six - for a term, to combine these same art forms alongside geography, history, literacy, science and R.E. Ruth and Dawn also spent a term with children in The Royal London Hospital School. Ruth designed and realised a multi-arts space during two years with the staff and children Bardfield Primary School, Basildon.. She also spent last year working on a project named ‘Triangle’, with two primary schools in Basildon. In weekly sessions over 3 terms Ruth and the teachers combvined 2D/ 3D Visual Art and drama with every aspect of the curriculum. The project spanned a year and was entirely classroom-based (although other spaces were used and explored). However, the focus in one school leaned towards literacy and, in the other, to numeracy. The entire project was observed and recorded by researchers Dr Sanjay Chaudhuri and Jacqueline Harding.
