Steve Downey lives in Essex, working full-time as a professional visual artist. Trained in fine art, film-making and education, Steve’s current work is mainly abstract, combining collage, paint, photography and computer-generated images, typically to form large abstract works which are brightly covered and richly patterned. Steve’s work is often influenced by images and designs from cultures across the world and by his recent journeys in China, India and Africa.
Steve has worked in a range of school environments, including three ‘art in architecture projects’, involving the integration of art within new school buildings, and landscaping. His work has been exhibited widely within the UK. Working at Sheering C of E Primary School "I have greatly enjoyed working with Sheering School. From the beginning we decided that I would work with every pupil and staff member in the school and our projects have culminated in the creation of two permanent artworks at the school.”
